Like many journalists, I started
my career on local newspapers. After a three year stint as a
reporter on a stable of weeklies, during which time I developed
a particular interest in features, I joined leading weekly travel industry
title Travel Trade Gazette.
Over my eight years on TTG I travelled widely, reporting on
tourism issues and writing first person accounts of destinations
as diverse as New Zealand, the Caribbean and Uzbekistan. For
much of my time on the paper I was the Features Editor, typically
responsible for more than half of TTG's editorial content. I
oversaw between eight and 25 pages of destination features a
week plus a popular 10-plus page lifestyle and workplace section
for travel agents, most of the regular content for which I devised
myself.
I left TTG in 2007 in order to pursue a freelance career writing
both travel and general features
My particular writing interests are first person pieces, case
studies/human interest, advice-based features and quirky subjects.
As an editor, I pride myself on original content ideas.
Travelwise, I have a broad knowledge of many destinations but
am particularly familiar with Australia, Asia (especially Thailand and Sri Lanka)
and eastern Europe. I also write regularly about weddings and
honeymoons and on issues affecting travel agents. |
